Crazy Adventures!
Last Friday we went to Munich because Elder Field needed to see the mission doctor. Munich is 4 hours away from us though, so we left early. As we were on the train that would've taken us straight there, it got cancelled midway due to some problems with the tracks which meant that we had to get off. We hopped off and turned out that we were in Austria! So I have officially been to all 3 countries in the mission already! We had to figure out a new way to get to Munich, and the fastest way got us there 2 hours late. We finally made it to the mission office by 3:30, but the doctor didn't make it there until 5 because of traffic. After their visit, we hopped on the train to get home which luckily didn't get canceled. We ended up getting home at 11:30 that night.
The other crazy adventure happened last night on the way to a member dinner appointment. There was an older woman, Sister Mirielle Leutzinger, from our ward had called us Sunday night asking if we could bring her a couple Books of Mormon, and we told her we would come by Monday night. So on the way to our dinner appointment we stopped by. The woman who answered the door though looked to be Sister Leuziner's caretaker. We asked if we could come in and give her the books, but the caretaker said we couldn't because of Corona. She went and asked if she wanted the books, but for some reason Sister Leuzinger said no. I'm still confused and don't know why she suddenly decided she didn't want the Books of Mormon, so hopefully we will get to the bottom of that mystery soon.
After that, we began walking to the bus stop, which we sadly missed by about 15 seconds. The bus didn't come for another 30 minutes so we decided to walk. We began the 27 walk when the phone that has the sim card and gives data to both of our phones, began to lose battery very quickly. Elder Field downloaded a map app that you can use without internet which barely finished downloading before the phone and our connection died. We walked the 30 minutes through these big open fields as the sun was setting and it was actually really beautiful. We got to the location that the map said the house was, but for some reason we couldn't find the house. Turns out that we put in the wrong address, and had walked 30 minutes in the wrong direction. Luckily we had texted the family right before the phone died that we would be late, but turns out that now we were gonna be SUPER late. We got the right address in, walked 30 more minutes, and ended up being 40 minutes late. We felt really really bad, but they were super nice and understanding.
I found this cool quote this past week from Jeffrey R Holland, "Furthermore, we note that not only has the Savior suffered, in His case entirely innocently, but so have most of the prophets and other great men and women recorded in the scriptures. Name an Old Testament or Book of Mormon prophet, name a New Testament Apostle, name virtually any of the leaders in any dispensation, including our own, and you name someone who has had trouble. My point? If you are having a bad day, you’ve got a lot of company—very, very good company. The best company that has ever lived." I think this is so cool! It was really comforting to know that everyone, even some of the best people to ever walk this earth, go through trials. It is easy to think that we are alone in our struggles, but every single person around you struggles with something. You are never alone, we aren't expected to be perfect, and in the famous words from High School Musical, "we are all in this together".
I'm so grateful that I get to be serving a mission, and for all of the things that I have, and will continue to learn.
