Week 12- A Week of Firsts
This was my first full week in the field! It has been a great experience so far! My trainer, Elder Field has been awesome, and his experience has been very helpful. He is already 22 months into the mission, so his German is very good.
We are opening this area (which just means that there haven't been missionaries here for a while) so there aren't many people to teach, but we have had lots of appointments with the members of our ward! They are all really cool! We actually got to go over to a ladies house to help her put up some cabinets, and she actually made us lunch and gave us a bunch of food which was super nice. We also got to go to in person church and met a bunch of people in our ward! Apparently, Jarnagin is really hard to say for them
.
When it comes to finding more people to actually teach, we haven't had much success. Luckily the covid restrictions are a lot less strict here in Switzerland than in Germany or Austria, so we are technically allowed to go street contacting, but people are still very cautious and don't really want to talk on the street, so we have done lots of Facebook finding. We have messaged lots of people, but have gotten nearly any responses. Hopefully we will have some more success this week.
German is still hard obviously, I have gotten a little better though at understanding people when they ask me questions. Elder Field still has to translate for me sometimes, but that's okay. For now I am just focusing on working hard every day to study German and trusting that my work and efforts will pay off.
Lots of new firsts this week though! Our whole apartment building shares a washer and dryer so we ended up having to use our clothes rack to air dry all of it! I had my first district meeting yesterday and it was actually really fun! Me and Elder Field both bore our testimonies in church in German so that was interesting. I was really nervous, but all of the members said my German was good and that they could understand me. We have also gotten to go on lots of trains and buses which I think is super fun!
Today for P-Day we went to Grindelwald, Switzerland! It was about 3 hours away by train, but it was worth it! We took a 25 minute cable car to the top of the mountain and it was amazing on the top! One of the coolest views I have ever seen in my life! There was also a cliff walk part which was super freaky, but super cool too, it had a couple hundred feet to the ground under it
. Elder Field is apparently very afraid of heights, but we did it and it was awesome!
Overall, things are going well! We are still getting used to the area but I know that our efforts will pay off! The Lords work moves forward!
